This is a versatile piece of gear. It’s obviously a great signal device due to the bright orange color and size. But it can also be used to keep your butt and knees dry when sitting or kneeling on the ground or on a wet log. Can also be a small ground cover for your bag or other gear. Another not so obvious use is as a container to transport water or to collect tinder or wild edibles. By connecting the four tabs on the corners together (with the included shock cord) you can make a carrier. This is a very well made and durable product. I have two, one for each bag.

While obviously not as comfortable as a foam pad, the signal panel is great for sitting or kneeling on, and it takes up such little room in a haversack or pack. It’s also very useful for catching fine stuff while processing tinder, such as tulip poplar, that might otherwise be lost or take on moisture. It’s great for collecting “smalls” and stuff like pine cones & needles for immediate use or to make a small fly to protect firewood. Really, the signal panel is limited only by its size and your imagination. For hammocks, it’s nice to have a dry place to step on when getting in and out. For some tarp tent configurations, the panel is big enough to add extra rain protection as something of a door on the outside or on the inside to put gear on. Yeah…very versatile, indeed! Well done, Malcolm!

This just came in the mail yesterday and it’s well made, can’t wait to explore the usefulness of it!
